Today was a difficult day, actually it has been a difficult week. We have been trying to get our internet set up and so far have been unsuccessful. This means we can't use our vonage phone to call our children. Paul has also been busy trying to get all kinds of papers taken care of so we can be legal as visitors, in the clinic, driving, etc. Just trying to learn how to get around with all the one way streets is an exercise in frustration. There are also problems with the car that have to be fixed. Trying to do all this while waiting around for computer people when we also need to be at the clinic has not been fun. Is this the part where we say "Are We Having Fun Yet?"
Then we put things in perspective: Paul wanted a hard mission, he just didn't mean hard in the way he is finding it. I guess we don't get to choose our challenges and what will make us grow. Someone else is in charge of that.; We think of our dear friends Norma and Richard Smith and Ken and Tina Ray--Now those are hard missions; But the most difficult thing that has happened to put what is really important in perspective is what our daughter Jenny is going through. Our beautiful, musician daughter is going to have an operation that will not only possibly cause lasting physical problems but will also result in the loss of her beautiful voice. It breaks our hearts and I just want to be with her and put my arms around her and I can't do that. Now that is hard. Then I remember what they promised us in the MTC and read us in the scriptures--that we are entitled to ask for additional blessings for our children and they will be blessed while we are serving as missionaries. So I am going to ask for all the small miracles I can on her behalf and one of those will be that my mother can be her guardian angel and help bring her comfort while she goes through this difficult time. Remember her in your prayers.

Great to see your blog, Joanne...it will be a great way to keep in touch while you're on your mission. Our prayers will certainly include Jenny...what a difficult, sad thing. Sounds like you are settling in well. Thanks for the picture you sent to Book Club with Carol - love it!

I'm sure in a few short weeks you will look back and laugh about how FUN this has all been...everything will work out soon.
We are keeping Jenny in our prayers.
