Last week our camera quit working. I decided a long time ago that when that happened I wanted to get a little Canon like my children have. However, the only thing they have at pricemart here is sony and kodak. We haven't decided what to do yet. We went to a beautiful place this week and I would like to have taken pictures.
We had a great volunteer this week, Dr. Alan Horowitz, a periodontist from Florida. Paul has traveled with him in the past on dental trips to Russia and Siberia but I had never met him. He was delightful and was a constant source of interesting facts about things I would never have imagined. At the end of the week we went with him to Lake Atitlan and stayed at the resort called Hotel Atitlan. I would like to have just sat on the deck and studied spanish all week and stared out at the volcano over-looking the lake, the beautiful gardens, the parrots and toucans, and all the other beautiful sights I could see right from my balcony. However, instead we explored the market and other sites. Next time though, I shall stay put. Without pictures, that is about it for this week. I don't even have any deep thoughts. Usually, at the end of the day I am too tired to think at all, let alone anything deep.

The closest thing to a deep thought this week was that my children are amazing. I am constantly amazed at the things they are doing as parents. It was my son Benjamin's birthday this week so I reflected on his life and thought about how lucky we all are to have him in our lives. He goes out of his way to make life better and more fun for everyone around him. He is really helping in so many ways to keep our family together while we are gone. I don't know where he finds the time because he is also busy being an amazing Dad in his own family.
As I look at my children's blogs and talk to them on the phone I wonder why they don't all just drop from sheer exhaustion. They are all so creative in finding ways to keep their children busy in the summer and away from the television. I feel blessed! My fantastic, amazing grandchildren are the result.

Bragging Rights!

You have quite a few bragging rights...what is it? ALMOST 34 grandkids now? or is it 35? I'm too tired to count. We all have bragging rights too--we have some pretty cool parents! So proud of you and what you are doing right now! Much more important than cleaning my bathrooms and making me lunch and dinner for a week! You will be missed but we will survive. Miss and love you!

Those are some pretty cute kids. They are spending almost every minute together you know. We miss Emily, Brian, and Parker's family. And you.

I have to agree about Benjamin but Lisa has been pretty fantastic too. I think she may be ready to drop when school starts. Is that a break for moms or is it busier then, I havent decided yet. My feet just hurt from tapping. Did you hear Lisa organized a pumpkin planting party tonight? Dad would be so proud of his garden.

Joanne sorry to post this here but Denna said her emails have been returned to you and I don't have your new cell number. the one i have says it is no longer in service. I don't know what information you've gotten so I'll just update you just in case you haven't heard anything.
John arrived Sunday night. On Monday Dad fell getting up out of bed. Steve and John were both in the next room. He was in lots of pain and they eventually called an ambulance to transport him to the hospital. He had fractured his hip but after consulting with everyone he's decided to not do surgery. We are having hospice set up in his home. Hopefully he will be able to get home by tomorrow. John spent the night with him and Julie and I were with him from noon to 7;30Pm and then Nita came. She shortened her trip a few days to come back.
Dad was not very lucid in the hospital but as soon as they gave him oxygen he was fine. He has congestive heart failure and his lungs are starting to fill so he knows the end is nearing. Call me if you need to talk. He is being well taken care of and is in good spirits. you can delete this after you've read it.
