Firecracker Stands-Everywhere
Once you get out of the car everyone rushes you to tell you to come to their stand
There is everything you can imagine--Huge rolls of firecrackers-small, large, and just plain enormous; big bombs and unbelievable big beautiful ones that shoot up into the air. On Christmas Eve we went to President and Sister Torres' apartment for a real Mexican tamale feast.(totally different than Guatemalan tamales) They were delicious. Then we climbed through a tiny door to the roof of their tall apartment building to look out over the city. At exactly 12:00 everyone, all over the city, begins to light all the fireworks they have been gathering all month. You are surrounded by Fourth of July Fireworks all over the City. It is quite amazing. It lasts for about 30 minutes. I will add pictures later if anyone was able to get any. We didn't have our camera set right. The boat at the bottom is a big drug runner boat outside our apartment complex. Nice!
Oh guess what ended up under our Christmas Tree with a tag on it for me from Santa?
You guessed it, Firecrackers. Believe it or not this was one of the small rolls! Paul is actually going to light it on his birthday in April. Hey, Boys, come and help him. He won't even get arrested. We hear firecrackers going off every day, night and morning--a very common ocurence here.

It is so wierd to see stands and there aren't very many. I think they might just be legal in January...it would be stupic in July but you can let off the ones they sell in utah now. Not the ones you are holding. We are getting ready for Emily to come, Baby Benjamin to come and lots of cousin time. hope you have a great time in the good old U.S.
